Many times when someone hears the term ‘lodge’ or if a person is directed to stay in a lodge instead of a hotel, they become very sceptic. Not until you check in to a place such as Mayfair Lodges in Bindura which is about an hour’s drive from Harare.
The lodge boasts of sparkling clean, warm and cozy bedrooms which are furnished with desks which a solitude writer can peacefully think and write their book without any disturbances, fully subscribed television and yes tea and coffee station. Their WIFI is not a disappointment for internet users. The place is family friendly. It would not be complete without a hot shower or bath depending on the choice of room one would want to stay in.
One thing that is also outstanding is their catering service, one is welcomed with either a continental or English breakfast which is professionally prepared by their resident chefs. They also offer a variety of traditional and Western cuisines for lunch and dinner including the most sought after braai in the Executive Bar.
Unfortunately not all is rosy at Mayfair Lodges, the interns who work at the reception area and the waitresses need more training on being hospitable, communicating with guests and just wear a friendly smile. Their conduct can easily turn a client away. A different observation is of the permanent and mature staff members who are hospitable and more welcoming.
The ethnic thatched conference room which is suitable for the now famous modern ‘maroro’ traditional marriage celebrations. Their garden which prides of flora and fauna is ideal for sitting under the moonlight star gazing or opt for a picnic during the day while enjoying the spectacular view of the Bindura nature. This can be extended to taking nature walks at the nearby mountains or a tour of the developing small town.
Surely after checking in to Mayfair Lodges you are tempted to live longer, the drive to Bindura and back to Harare is equally breathtaking, the view comprises of mountains, orange estates and the famous Mazowe dam.
